Shadow Yoga is a school of Yoga distilled
from a lifetime of practice, study, and exploration of Hatha Yoga by
Master Teacher, Zhander Remete. It is a complete system that emphasizes
patient cultivation of the student and their abilities.
The practice is organized around three preludes consisting
of
spiraling, coiling, folding, pumping and other movements. Containing
the seeds of the traditional asanas, the preludes are worked
dynamically so that the student learns how to enter, stay, and exit
asana properly. Through the activity, it dawns that the body is not as
we imagine it - the knee is not a hinge
nor is the body just a collection of different anatomical systems. The
totality is much more than the sum of these parts and is waiting to be
discovered. With patience and diligence, space is created that allows
one to intelligently hone the practices of Hatha Yoga.
Balakrama • Stepping
Into Strength
The entry into the Shadow Yoga system. Through asymmetrical pumping
movements, the student learns how to fold and
unfold limbs properly. In addition to strengthening and
tonifying the body, it puts the student in direct contact with their
blockages so they can honestly see their strengths and weaknesses.
Chaya Yoddha Sancalanam
• Churning of the Shadow Warrior
Building on Balakrama, this prelude works coordinated sweeping and
spiraling movements of the limbs.
Kartikkeya Mandala
• Garland of Light
An intense prelude that consists of powerful twisting movements.
Kartikkeya prepares the practitioner for advanced asana work.
Shadow Yoga is a rigorous, demanding but balanced practice that asks directly, are you ready?
